Keep your devices up-to-date

It’s so easy to hit that ‘Not now’ button, repeatedly delaying your computer’s latest update.  Why is it important not to ignore those pesky reminders?

Keeping your devices and software up-to-date is one of the easiest ways to protect your information. Software updates give you new features. They also fix security vulnerabilities, like a bug or weakness in software, that attackers could take advantage of.

If you’ve got time, click ‘Update now’ and grab a coffee while you wait! Better still, go into ‘system preferences’ on your device to set updates to run automatically.

As technology advances, older devices may become more vulnerable to security threats. However, you can still protect your older devices by following these tips -

1. Keep software up-to-date

  • Regularly update your device's software and apps to patch security vulnerabilities.

2. Secure with strong passwords/biometrics:

  • Use robust, unique passwords or phrases for your device and accounts. If available, use biometric authentication (like Face ID or thumbprint) to prevent others accessing your device.

3. Activate built-in security features

  • Enable features such as passcodes, fingerprint recognition, or remote locking and wiping to defend against theft or access from others.
